We will remove tracking data that is related to deleted trainings and registrations (Tracking lines without context) older than 3 years on a regular basis.
What is “tracking without context”?
Whenever a learner accesses a learning resource in a training course, we store the information about this access (date & time, time spent, score, completion…) in the CKLS database. This tracking line is linked to the context: the training course/session the learner was in when they accessed the learning resource.
If training course is deleted, or if the learner is unregistered from the course, the tracking line remains in the database, but we remove the context, as it no longer exists.
As it is not a good practice to delete training courses or unregister learners, tracking without context should normally be an exception.
Why are we doing this?
These tracking lines accumulate indefinitely, and especially on platforms with a longer history, they impact the database size and performance.
Cleaning them will have a positive impact on the application performance (e.g. on the generation of reporting).
Where can I see this “tracking without context”?
In certain reports (e.g. the learning resource reports) or on the profile page of the learner (the option Manage learning resources available for this learner), you can still find these tracking lines. The column Context will be empty.
What will happen?
The concept of tracking without context will continue to exist, but we will delete tracking lines without context that are older than 3 years.
After the first deletion, we will schedule this process every month. Tracking without context older than 3 years will be deleted systematically.
What will be the impact?
For the learner, the impact will be minimal. Tracking without context is not exposed to the learner in front office.
Administrators might notice that the tracking without context is no longer present in certain reports.
If your organization has created custom reports or dashboards based on information in the data extracts or data lake, and you are using the tracking without context in your calculations, you might see a change in the historical data older than 3 years.
When will this happen?
We will start the deletion on February 26, 2026. For customers that have a lot of historical data, this process can take several days.
